LJUBLJANA ART WEEKEND
RAVNIKAR, Ljubljana, SI
Artistic Director
Ljubljana Art Weekend
RAVNIKAR Projects invites applications for the position of Artistic Director of the sixth edition of Ljubljana Art Weekend, taking place from 21 to 23 May 2027. Ljubljana Art Weekend is a city-wide platform dedicated to contemporary art, bringing together galleries, museums, independent art spaces, artists and other cultural initiatives through a shared programme of exhibitions, events and encounters. It aims to strengthen connections across Ljubljana’s contemporary art scene while creating opportunities for exchange between local and international audiences and the wider art community.
For its sixth edition, Ljubljana Art Weekend is seeking an Artistic Director to develop a new curatorial direction for the project. The role involves shaping the overall artistic concept, proposing a coherent vision for the edition, identifying relevant artistic and institutional connections, and developing a programme that reflects the diversity of contemporary art practices and the specific context of Ljubljana. We welcome candidates with an independent curatorial perspective, a strong understanding of contemporary art and an interest in developing collaborative approaches to presenting art across the city.
The position is primarily conceptual and curatorial. The selected candidate will work closely with RAVNIKAR Projects and its production team, which will provide organisational and practical support throughout the preparation and delivery of the event. The Artistic Director will not be expected to independently manage all aspects of production, administration or communications, but will collaborate with the team to ensure that the proposed curatorial vision can be translated into a coherent and feasible programme. We are interested in proposals that consider Ljubljana Art Weekend both as an opportunity to connect existing artistic initiatives across the city and as a platform for developing new encounters, collaborations and ways of engaging with contemporary art. The curatorial approach remains open, and candidates are invited to propose their own perspective on how Ljubljana Art Weekend might develop in its sixth edition.
The collaboration will be project-based, with the main period of work running from January to May 2027. The working arrangement can accommodate remote work, although visits to Ljubljana during the preparation period and in-person participation throughout Ljubljana Art Weekend will be necessary. The scope of the programme and its production requirements will be developed in dialogue with RAVNIKAR Projects, taking into account the available resources and the practical framework of the event.
We welcome applications from curators and other professionals working in contemporary art who can demonstrate relevant experience, an independent perspective and an interest in collaborative cultural projects. Applicants should be able to articulate a clear approach to the artistic direction of Ljubljana Art Weekend while remaining attentive to the practical and financial context in which the project operates.
Please submit your CV, a short biography and a cover letter outlining your interest in the position and your approach to the artistic direction of Ljubljana Art Weekend. All application materials should be in English.
Applications should be sent to projects@ravnikar.org by 26 October 2026. The scope of work and financial terms will be discussed with the selected candidate in relation to the agreed responsibilities and the resources available for the 2027 edition.
